In a remarkable show of confidence, Gov. John Bel Edwards entered into the City Council District B race with an enthusiastic endorsement for candidate Jay H. Banks. “You won’t see me involved in any other race in New Orleans.”, The Governor said during his speech. The capacity crowd thundered their approval when Edwards remarked that “It takes teamwork at all levels” to continue moving the state and the city in the right direction. Gov. Edwards specifically cited Banks’ depth of experience and decades of service in local government and to his community. Banks, who currently serves as the director of the School of Commerce at the Dryades YMCA, spoke of his appreciation for the Governor’s endorsement, but also to his example of integrity and character in a public servant. Banks stated that Gov. Edwards places “emphasis on people first” and “never forgetting that you’re in office not for yourself, or for your friends, but for the people you represent.” The Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast, held at Delgado Community College, was filled with representatives from all faiths in the District, as well as current and former elected officials and members of the various trade unions who have also endorsed Banks’ candidacy.
